Mumbai-based vocalist and vocal coach Zian B, renowned for her voice in the jazz, blues, soul, and funk space, has released a new song titled ‘Uncertain.’
A performer for roughly fifteen years and a prominent fixture at venues that cherish and bill jazz musicians in the city, Zian’s latest single ‘Uncertain’ seamlessly nestles into the festivities of the Christmas season and New Year Celebrations and flamboyantly delivers that jazzy oomph element.
‘Uncertain’ was conceived as “a reflection of my ongoing struggle,” conveyed Zian via email. This jazz piece was written on the back of the singer-songwriter being bogged down by “what the future holds,” due to her tryst with hospital visits and ongoing wrangles with two chronic illnesses.
Opening with beefy bass plucks, upbeat drum patterns and lively key arrangments mold the melody caressed by Zian’s dynamic free-flowing scatting segments. Delicious dallops of the brass instruments soon ensue with the singer producing stellar vocal sections, emphatically singing the lyrics, “Recognize all beauty in these moments of pain.”
Recorded at Mumbai’s Island City Studios, the track features a sturdy cast of musicians, namely Gregor Oehlmann on saxophone, Joey Schins on drums, Sondre Kvingedal on the trumpet, Giorgio Stienstra on bass, and pianist-composer Tizaan Alphonso.
Talking about the release, Zian B further expressed, “This song is about embracing life’s uncertainties, the constant changes that shape our journey, and the power of resilience, gratitude, and love. I hope this song inspires you to hold onto hope and find strength within yourself and the people you love.”
