gini – ‘Sukoon’

gini – ‘Sukoon’

Singer-songwriter gini racks up her third outing with Molfa Music, dropping yet another exquisite release in 2024 with the Hindi-worded alternative/indie single ‘Sukoon’ (peace). Written and composed by gini, ‘Sukoon’ is guided by delicate acoustic/electric guitar rhythms, soothing vocal textures, and vibrant production.

According to gini, “The song is based on very strong emotions of wanting to feel ‘sukoon’. I’d written it during a period of solitude wherein I was reading and writing more than ever. I’d create worlds with every piece of literature I consumed and realized that I was moving through those worlds too fast; I wasn’t stopping to truly bask in the bliss, or ‘sukoon’, of the books.” To this effect, she added, “So, I wrote a song to remind me to stop and appreciate the moments and the feelings I was experiencing.”

Since its release, gini’s ‘Sukoon’ has amassed over 400K streams on Spotify and its music video has peaked at 300K views on YouTube at the time of writing.

nichesluck – ‘Andhera’

nichesluck – ‘Andhera’

Mumbai-based musician Anisha Lakshmanan, aka nichesluck, leaps back into releasing music after a hiatus of five years. Titled Andhera’ (darkness), it is a gloomy Hindi-worded electronica production patched with a melancholic melody. For this song, Anisha drew inspiration from a train journey in 2019, which exposed the singer to the many struggles and hardships of the world.

Anisha states via a press release, “I tried to paint a vivid picture of the disparity between dreams and the harsh conditions faced by those enduring hunger, oppression, and neglect. The song’s refrain, ‘Andhera hai yahaan’ (it is dark here), echoes the pervasive sense of indifference that shrouds these individuals.”

The music video for ‘Andhera,’ filmed and edited by filmmaker Vaibhav Sharma, weaves in visuals and data from the ongoing Israeli–Palestinian conflict, underlining the song’s themes of societal neglect. The singer/producer further states, “As artists, we don’t have much power except for the message that we put out into the world, and ‘Andhera’ is my way of using whatever power I have for the better. This is my first release in 5 years; what better way to use my voice again than to speak for those who aren’t being heard?”

Tech Panda x Kenzani – ‘Sada’

Tech Panda x Kenzani – ‘Sada’

Delhi-based electronica duo Tech Panda x Kenzani signals the masses toward their impending 21-track debut album ‘Tijori’ (Safe/Vault). The first single ‘Sada’ reels work from upcoming producer Aniket Jain aka Blu Attic and vocalist Aaromal Rajendrababu. The nearly five-minute tune is yet another magical production from the duo, exhibiting their prowess on deck, assembling an expansive melodic journey sealed with flicking beat relays, rumbling bass lines, and minimalist sonics elevated only by the vocal segments from singer Aaromal.

The duo stated,” ‘Sada’ was chosen as our first release because it displays the power of the current Indian electronica scene. We have released over a hundred tracks in the last few years and it’s time we push the rising, next-gen talent. Pushing the envelope in terms of fusing two worlds, ‘Sada’ is the best first step forward of uncovering the multi-layered album called ‘Tijori.'”

Dream Anatomy – ‘Endless Loop’

Dream Anatomy, the moniker of Mumbai-based vocalist Riddhi Vyas, is a project stitched around gothic, trip-hop, and dream pop genres. The artist has released the new single ‘Endless Loop,’ a song that probes into nostalgic and timeless love. First taking shape during the lockdown, the single is riddled with ethereal sonics, molding a mysterious yet alluring soundscape. Picking up with tinkling flickers, the lyrics ‘Sleep, dream, repeat’ are echoed by Riddhi’s gloomy vocal display.

“It’s about setting free the love that may be true and eternal but yet keeps us stuck in a loop when it’s time to leave,’ conveyed Dream Anatomy about the single.

Visually and sonically, the entire production takes inspiration from the German science fiction series ‘Dark’ which aired on Netflix and ran for three seasons. Riddhi stated, “What struck me about the series is that everyone gets stuck in endless time loops only to face the reality – that one day, we all have to let go to feel liberated.”

The artists describe ‘Home’ as “a heartfelt and emotional piece that delves into themes of loneliness, longing, and the deep desire to find a place of belonging.”

Yohan Marshall – ‘Bawara Mann’

Yohan Marshall – ‘Bawara Mann’

Bouncing off his recently released and well-received song ‘Just For Once’ featuring Mali, musician Yohan Marshall now drafts ‘Bawara Mann,’ an alternative indie tune about finding love and its effect of feeling understood. A peep into the lyrics uncoils a scenario that feels colorless and bleak sans the presence of that special someone, further opening up on how their presence can illuminate a room and bring in a sense of calm.

Sparking with acoustic guitar chords, Yohan draws up a glistening feel-good pop melody with his crooning vocals and up-tempo rhythms, unscored by an oscillating slowcore-esque tune. Thumping percussions and lively electric guitars soon ensue as the arrangement narrowly shifts to an attractive, heavier alternative rock sound with an English lyric bridge section.
