Kidshot Accounts a Tale of Deceit and Vengeance on ‘Mainland’

Mumbai-based rapper Rahul Khadtare, best known as Kidshot, unleashes an onslaught of piercing rhymes and virulent sonics on ‘Mainland,’ his maiden release via Molfa Music and first of 2024.

“My sound has always stood out and always will because I try and experiment with new things. ‘Mainland’ is something like that, a sound everyone will love,” says Kidshot in a statement.

‘Meri Baari’ and ‘Warm Up’ fame Kidshot, who is one of India’s fastest-rising rappers known to spit out 335 words per minute, channels Mumbai City’s hectic pace and unrelenting grind as inspiration for his latest rack. Produced by Basshole, the beat is dark and hypnotic, and concocts a suspenseful soundscape.

As the ominous and menacing score ensues, Kidshots pummels rampant rap verses in Hindi, slowly increasing in intensity with each moment. ‘Mainland’ was released with a music video, directed by Yuvraj Singh. It follows a tale of treachery and revenge, framing shots of the artist in a gruesome interrogation/torture scene at a lavish table spread, an unhinged car ride, and a decisive kill shot.

Speaking about the release, Kidshot says, “This is a special release because I’m bringing and introducing a new sound to the scene, cinematic hip-hop, this has never been done before here and I’m sure this is the future of hip-hop.”

As revealed via press releases, the nearly three-minute hip-hop tune was designed and completed in just over an hour in Mumbai at Island City Studios, owing to the rapper’s existing relationship with producer Basshole and mixing engineer Hersh Desai. “Every time we meet, we create magic,” says Kidshot.

Since its release, ‘Mainland’ has garnered over thirty thousand streams on Spotify, with its music video clocking nearly 100K views thus far.
