Overview Music’s rising DnB DJ/producer Operate embarked on his anticipated India Tour 2023 with a power-packed inaugural show in Mumbai on October 19. Organized by one of India’s leading drum & bass communities D&B Draft with ticketing partner Ticket Fairy, the Mumbai edition at antiSOCIAL spawned nearly 250 attendees, bobbing to the tunes laid out by Operate as well as supporting acts Fragment, kSaya, C4GE ft. Khabardar and BAVLOW, with GOAX on hosting duties.
Mumbai-based producer BAVLOW, the moniker of Dilip Jangid, hit the ground running as the opening act. He brought forth the promised bass-heavy, minimal drum & bass rollers to his set, establishing the sound for the night that was to come. BAVLOW raided antiSOCIAL with emphatic bass drops and jarring drum and bass shifts. A perfect show opener to heat the dance floor, BAVLOW mixed in a slew of wobble action coupled with timely vocal crawls.
C4GE followed next, extending the bass-heavy rhythm of the night while sauntering on the peripheries of Indian folk melodies. The artist also pulled out his original mix, ‘Slice of Life,’ to a lively response from the enthusiastic crowd. It was a treat for the eyes and a feast for the ears as the hip-hop resistance collective Khabardar laid out rap bars in Hindi and Marathi over DnB pulsing.
Continuing the drum & bass and Indian music waltz, what followed was a club-shaking b2b set from DnB devotees Fragment and kSaya. With quick-fire tempo changes, the duo took things up a notch, rapidly producing a feet-stomping and hair-raising display. Their set consisted of DnB, dub and jungle beats, mixing in tunes from Camo & Krooked, Gyrofield, Nasha Experience, Justin Hawkes, Dillinja and Mefjus, among other bangers. The pair closed out with a drum & bass-injected version of the fan-favorite single ‘Tujhe Bhula Diya,’ to a mighty response from the crowd.
