Delhi-based music producer and DJ Karan Dhingra, best known as House Of TUNEMAN, has released his newest two-track EP ‘Rover’ that connects ethnic sounds with Afro-inspired elements.
On his newest record, the ‘Bombay Bustle’ fame House Of TUNEMAN continues to deepen his fixations with Afro house, deep house, and folk themes stewing a flavorful medley of rhythms.
Pulled from Dhingra’s experience of pursuing the celestial grandeur of the earth’s only natural satellite is ‘Moon Chaser.’ As with his previous works, this tune is thoughtfully layered with Indo-Afro instrumentation, consisting of the Ghatam, Tabla, Djembe (percussion instruments), and Bansuri (bamboo flute), also peppered in with delicious licks of a Swiss handpan.
Right at the outset of ‘Moon Chaser,’ House Of TUNEMAN delivers an Afro-house intro coated with bellowing Alaap segments. The melody courses through with Indian classical vocals smudged with pulsating deep house textures and the aforementioned instruments on full display. According to the artist, this tune was inspired by the tranquility of the night, stating that “nights are more peaceful and serene to wander.” This score also sums up his idea of a solo traveler who links the diverse cultures they encounter.
‘Maneye’ switches up the offering, keeping the Afrobeats looping and adding a dollop of bass rumblings underscored by powerful Afro vocal segments that echo the track’s title. This production is molded with rousing folds of Afro percussion, wooden claps, and shakers all held together by Latin-style percussive patterns.
Bursting onto the scene in 2020, House Of TUNEMAN has steadily forged a concrete fanbase in India’s buzzing electronic music scene, solidifying his reputation with productions ‘Bombay Bustle,’ ‘Forest Humms,’ ‘Saanjh,’ and appearances alongside the likes of SARABI, KOROLOVA, Anyasa, Guy Mantzur, and Sam Paganini, to name a few.
