7 Artists to Watch at Suara Festival 2024 in Bali

Suara Festival Bali is positioned to become a melting pot of music, art, and culture, spooning out some of the biggest names in music and also highlighting the most proficient acts in the local scene.

Striding away from heavy hitters HVOB, LP Giobbi, Lastlings, YOUNGR, Angus & Julia Stone, and the works, we have scouted a few notable artists you should definitely take a look at during the festival from July 26-28, 2024.

Jinny Ohh

One can only marvel at the soothing vibrations emitted from the console of a former CEO of a product strategy and UX design firm, who has marshaled dancefloors across the world with residences in Toronto, Lyon, and Shanghai. South Korea-born and Los Angeles-based artist Jinny Ohh continues to construct a steady profile as a DJ in the global live music scene, successfully transitioning from orchestrating innovative teams to entertaining party-goers.

Catch the CEO-turned-DJ/producer lighting up Suara on Day One, performing at the Mandala Club stage and squeezing out scores of house themes folded with shards of classical instrumentation.

Sivanesh

Singapore-based man for all rhythms, Sivanesh Pillai, who goes by Sivanesh, swings in his experience as a co-founder of pop-up event curators Sivilian Affairs and brainiac at Potato Head SG to formulate his upcoming performance at Suara Festival. DJing since 2011, Sivanesh opened for The Martinez Brothers at Cercle’s debut show at CE LA VI, Singapore, in 2019 and has since built a steadfast career as a music director, promoter, and a regular fixture at some of Singapore’s hottest clubs and festivals across Asia.

Steeped in house music, Sivanesh lays out a multi-genre session dabbling with techno, acid-jazz, and funk. You can be a part of his performance on Friday at the Luna stage.

Batavia Collective

Jakarta-based electronic improv jazz trio Batavia Collective, consisting of musicians Doni Joesran (Keys), Kenny Gabriel (synth-bass), and Elfa Zulham (drums), certainly know how to get the groove going with their electric genre-fluid performances and fluffy upbeat tempo. In their career so far, the group has released four singles and one EP ‘BVCT‘ and have embarked on tours across Indonesia, Australia, and India, performing at the first Echoes of Earth festival in Goa and NMACC in BKC alongside Many Roots Ensemble.

With Batavia Collective, you’ll be treated to an eclectic wave of future jazz, liquid funk, and electronic soul steered by waxed synth work, snappy chord progressions, and divine key segments on Saturday at the Suara stage.

Brandt Brauer Frick

Decked in suits and ties and offering an immersive audio-visual presentation are German group Brandt Brauer Frick, whose scintillating production stands at a convergence of electronic-dance-minimal and techno music. The Berlin-based electronic collective picked their name from each member’s last name (Daniel Brandt, Jan Brauer, and Paul Frick) and have stitched together seven albums so far, their most recent being ‘Multi Faith Prayer Room,’ released in June 2023.

Suara Festival will be Brandt Brauer Frick’s first tryst with a live audience in Bali, and they are scheduled to perform on Friday at the Suara stage.

Kimoji

If what your body twists to is a throwback session to the age of disco enveloped with house tunes, dreamy beats, and steamy retro dance mixes, then enter the arena of Kimoji. Bandung, Indonesia’s hotshot producer Kimo Nugroho, thriving under Kimoji, took up shop behind the deck in 2017. Beginning with remixes and bootlegs, Kimoji eventually earned a residency at Jakarta’s famous nightclub Zodiac, where he produced a stunning six-hour session.

Prepare for Kimoji with his buzzing set at Boiler Room Bali, which has amassed over 25K views since it premiered. He takes over the Elysium stage on Saturday at Suara.

Catur Hari Wijaya

Bali-based multi-instrumentalist Catur Hari Wijaya takes his listeners on a blissful musical journey through sounds influenced by ethnic music from Indonesia, India, the Middle East, North Africa, and West Africa. Driven by a passion for folk music, his artistry blooms with strings, shakers, flutes, and percussive instruments, blending original compositions with traditional music. Ahead of his performance, you can check out his debut album, ‘Bali To Mali,’ comprised of eleven glistening tracks.

Catur Hari Wijaya occupies the Labyrinth stage at Suara on Saturday.

Orasaré

Self-taught ethno-progressive jazz outfit Orasaré partially acquired their moniker from a Javanese proverb ‘Gusti Ora Sare’ – ‘God doesn’t sleep,’ and presents a setlist buzzing with ancient rhythms folded with contemporary sounds. The instrumental setup, complete with dazzling keys and lush horn segments, formed in 2021 and released their debut EP ‘Mlaku Mlaku’ in 2021. For a taste of what they bring to the table, listen to their single ‘Mahameru,’ which features gorgeous vocals from versatile musician Tigra Rose.
