Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Yohaan Samuel makes his maiden steps into the indie scene with ‘Little Miss Time,’ putting a unique swirl on the concept of time.
On the cusp of his thirties, Yohaan Samuel looks at the passage of time as an “unwelcome friend”—always humorously plotting and probing sequences of events that appear to hamper or upturn one’s life’s journey. Backed by Los Angeles-based songwriter Gable Price, Yohaan takes you through his vantage point in his debut single. He depicts time or ‘Little Miss Time’ as the “common denominator,” which leaves the artist stranded in his quarter-life crisis.
Acknowledging the reality that nobody can pause time, Yohaan’s smelting hot alternative rock single picks up with throbbing bass lines, rhythmic guitar strums, and quick-fire drum action, molding a hard-hitting energetic/bouncy production. Lyrically, the single shifts in a witty investigation of time always poking around, even dubbed a “two-faced liar,” and calls back on Yohaan’s many experiences growing up.
Tracing the evolution of his release in an email exchange, Yohaan communicated, “When I turned 29, I realized that this was the last year of my 20s. And when you’re 29, things feel really grim because 30 feels like ‘the hill’. I began to wonder if I had done the things I wanted to do in my 20s and also began grieving the fact that time had taken things from me.”
Alluding to the innocence of youth and the freedom from responsibilities, he further explained, “I realized that I was never going to get those moments back. The more I thought about it, the faster lyrics started to fall out of my brain and onto my Notes app.”
Returning to India after a spell, Yohaan plans to unhook more music, waddle his way into the music scene and release his debut album soon. Growing up, he has had a taste for artists such as COIN, The Killers, Paramore, Switchfoot, Coldplay, 1975, Bleachers, Jon Bellion, Abby Holliday, Michigander, etc.
