Music Festivals to Attend in New Zealand this Summer 2023-24

Hidden Valley Festival

When: December 27, 2023, 3 PM onwards

Where: Matakana Country Park, Matakana

Hidden Valley returns for its ninth installment this December at the 50-acre estate of Matakana Country Park. The line-up for Hidden Valley Festival 2023 has yet to be announced. Last year, the English electronic duo Chase & Status played a DJ set at Hidden Valley! Sub Focus, Fisher, Alison Wonderland, and Culture Shock, to name a few, have been tapped for the festival over the years.

The festival also saw performances from Australian house music producer Dom Dolla, Kanine, Skream, Melbourne-based DJ/producer Aroha, Patrick Topping, and more. Hidden Valley 2022 hosted local talents JessB, Waja, and Ghee, among others. You can enjoy incredible music for eight hours from 3 PM – 11 PM.

Northern Bass 23/24 

When: December 29, 2023 – January 1, 2024

Where: Kaiwaka

Bring in the new year in style with first-class DJs, producers, and musicians at Northern Bass! The three-day festival offers amazing music, food, beverages as well as hot showers. While the line-up for its 2023–24 edition is yet to be unveiled, you can make the most of your festival experience by opting to stay on-site, which requires a camping pass. Camping is available for 2 or 3 days.

Once you select your event tickets, you can pick your add-ons. For a stunning view of the mainstage, you can get the Fuzen Lounge Ticket which comes with a dedicated bar with exclusive drinks, picnic tables, couches, bean bags, and more!

Rhythm & Alps 2023

When: December 29, 2023 – January 1, 2024

Where: Robrosa Estate, Cardrona

About 10,000 revelers flock to Rhythm & Alps, the South Island sister festival of Rhythm & Vines, every year! The three-day music and camping festival hosts more than 50 international artists and local legends. AUM New Year’s Festival 2023 

When: December 30, 2023 – January 2, 2024

Where: Leighton’s Farm, South Head

AUM New Year’s Festival is a family camping, music, and arts festival. It is three days and nights of music, laughter, visual and performing arts, scrumptious food, workshops, and lots more! Hundreds of artists, DJs, solo musicians, live electronic music acts, and bands from all around the world will perform across four stages with the best sound quality in New Zealand!

The first release line-up of AUM New Year’s Festival includes Juno Reactor, Gaudi, Rinkadink, Paige Julia, Jakob, The Librarian, Datgirl & Zappa, Camo MC, and a bunch more artists, with phase two line-up to be revealed soon.

Installation art, yoga, movies, healing, markets, fully themed fancy dress family events, circus acts and gala shows, live art, glow, and fire are among some of its offerings! The theme for AUM New Year’s Festival 2023 is Aquarium, “where the beauty and wonders of the deep sea and all its fabulous creatures, real and imaginary, come together for a 3-night fantasy festival experience,” the festival announced on Instagram. “Next summer AUM will transform into an undersea forest with mystical reefs, giant seaweed and schools of glittering fish, striped fish, jellyfish, mermaids, mermen and other wonders of the deep.”

Rolling Meadows 2023 

When: December 30, 2023 – January 1, 2024

Where:  376 Ram Paddock Road, Broomfield

The Rolling Meadows returns this year with four massive stages, four bars with Kiwi wine, and an enormous 40-foot container skateboarding competition. You can also get tap-pulled craft beer at this music festival set in a beautiful boutique winery. At Rolling Meadows, you can enjoy electronic music, pop as well as hip-hop!

Some of the artists slated to take the stage at the Rolling Meadows in 2023/2024 are a Kiwi pop and R&B band Drax Project, UK-based drum & bass producer Vibe Chemistry, Australian hip-hop and drill band HP Boyz, Dutch DnB group Black Sun Empire, New Zealand singer-songwriter Prins, and English singer-songwriter, musician, rapper, and producer Example.

Juicy Fest 

When: January 3, 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, and 20, 2024

Where: Christchurch, Wellington, Tauranga, Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, and the Gold Coast

Juicy Fest, a massive hip-hop and R&B music festival, is coming to New Zealand and Australia with nine shows across the countries. This festival gives you an opportunity to witness live music from some of the most renowned artists, including T.I., Ashanti, T-Pain, Trey Songz, and The Game this year!

‘Let Me Love You’ singer Mario, R&B singer-songwriter Keri Hilson, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, and Fabolous will also hit this music festival stage. The Juicy Fest tour kicks off in Christchurch on January 3, with shows in Wellington (Jan 5), Tauranga (Jan 6), Auckland (Jan 7), Melbourne (Jan 12), Sydney (Jan 13), Perth (Jan 14), Adelaide (Jan 19), and its final stop, the Gold Coast (Jan 20).

One Love Festival 2024 

When: January 27 – 28, 2024

Where: Tauranga Domain, Tauranga

Reggae lovers, this one’s for you! One Love, a two-day festival featuring a massive reggae line-up with some of the biggest names in the genre, returns next year on January 27 – 28. Jamaican rapper and singer Sean Paul, who is celebrated as a reggae superstar, will also head to Tauranga for One Love next year!

You can witness unmissable performances from Shaggy, reggae music icon Bob Marley’s son Julian Marley, Wyclef Jean, UB40, Fiji, and more! Pia Mia, J Boog, Spawnbreezie, Common Kings, and The Green, among other thrilling artists, are also on the line-up.

Outfield Music, Food & Arts Festival 2024 

When: February 10, 2024

Where: Te Awanga

Outfield Music, Food & Arts Festival is returning for its fifth year to provide great vibes and memorable performances from notable artists as well as rising talents on February 10 next year! This family-friendly festival also offers art and delicious food options. 

Mark your calendars for a day for a celebration of music, arts, culture, and food! The line-up for this festival is yet to be announced but one thing’s for sure: it won’t disappoint! 

Please note: Camping tickets don’t come with a festival ticket. You will need to buy both camping and festival tickets. The General Camping is an all-ages camping area while the Family Camping area is for parents and children. For motorhomes and campervans, you will need a powered/unpowered motorhome/camper ticket.

121 Festival 2024

When: March 15 – 17, 2024

Where: Tauherenikau Racecourse, Tauherenikau

The third edition of 121 Festival will be held from March 15 – 17 next year! Some of the finest talents like DJ/producer and label-head DJ Tennis, Interplanetary Criminal, and Peach Milk have taken the 121 Festival stage over the years. The 121 Festival features an Odyssey Stage, Koro? Stage, Dance Tunnel, Ballroom, and Committee Room and also offers wellness programs like workshops and yoga.

Splore Festival 2024 

When: February 23 – 25, 2023

Where: Tapapakanga Regional Park, Orere Point

Thousands of people flock to the Splore Festival for three days of entertainment, music, and dancing! Plan colorful costumes based on the annual theme with your friends and experience the flash mobs, performances, workshops, installations, and shows this festival offers. As for food and drinks, you can get coffee, smoothies, vegan and gluten-free options, wine, fresh juices, beer, as well as non-alcoholic drinks!

Shipwrecked Music & Arts Festival 2024

When: February 9 – 11, 2024

Where: Te Arai, North Island

The Shipwrecked Music & Arts Festival returns to the sandy shores of Te Arai next year. The 2024 edition of the festival will be held from February 9 – 11, with underground electronic music, workshops, live performances, and lots more. You can also immerse yourself in the visual and interactive art displayed at the festival. This year, Shipwrecked hosted a number of international artists including Dilby, Madmotormiquel, Zebra Centauri, Dewalta, and Princess Room from Germany, Australia’s Moontide Ensemble, Quackers, Mazuko, and Lilli Joy, along with Kotoe from Japan.
