2024 proved to be a monumental year for dance music, which continued its reign across music charts worldwide. This year saw dance music expanding its reach and influence, with hits spanning the entire spectrum of the genre. These tracks, ranging from infectious house grooves and euphoric festival anthems to gritty underground bangers, became the core of clubs, airwaves, and playlists worldwide.
The beauty of dance music this year lies in its versatility and impact. Tracks from all ends of the spectrum found their place in the spotlight, resonating with audiences at festivals, in clubs, and on global streaming platforms. These weren’t just songs—they were experiences, transporting listeners and dancers to moments of pure euphoria, reflection, or unbridled energy. While many tracks achieved massive commercial success, others carved their legacy in clubs, festivals, and underground scenes.
This year showcased the power of dance music to unite and inspire, and we are confident that the seeds we planted this year will blossom into something even more spectacular. As we gear up for another exciting year, let’s take a closer look at the tracks that dominated the charts, captured our hearts, and soundtracked an unforgettable 2024.
AHADADREAM X PRIYA RAGU X SKRILLEX – ‘TAKA’
Skrillex’s unparalleled versatility in producing virtually any style he desires has consistently set him apart. This year, the Grammy-winning DJ and producer joined forces with Ahadadream and Priya Ragu to create ‘Taka,’ a dynamic fusion of Afro House, GQOM, and a touch of jungle terror. With Ahadadream and Priya Ragu bringing their South Asian heritage—Pakistani and Sri Lankan influences into the mix, ‘Taka’ became more than just a track; it evolved into a cultural celebration. The song dominated dancefloors worldwide and inspired a wave of remixes, seamlessly crossing genres and cementing its place as a standout anthem of 2024.
MAU P – ‘BEATS FOR THE UNDERGROUND’
Few artists can confidently claim, “I came, I saw, I conquered,” but for Mau P, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration. Fully embracing his ability to make people stomp their feet to his beats, Mau P released one of the most sought-after IDs of 2023 early this year. He kicked off 2024 with the release of one of 2023’s most anticipated IDs, ‘Beats For The Underground.’ The track, released on Lee Foss’ Repopulate Mars label, not only claimed the top spot on Beatport’s main chart but also shattered expectations, securing the 33rd position on BeatStats’ Top 100 (All Genres) chart with an impressive 8,394 points over 111 days, making ‘Beats For The Underground’ one of the hottest tunes of 2024.
ADAM PORT, KEINEMUSIK, CAMILA CABELLO, ORSO, STRYV, MALACHIII – ‘MOVE’
Afro House firmly established itself as a dominant force in dance music, with 2024 cementing its place through Adam Port’s ‘Move,’ a track that defined the genre’s year. The single initially featured Adam Port alongside Keinemusik, Stryv, and Malachiii, before Camila Cabello and Orso joined in, taking the track to new heights. ‘Move’ peaked at number 34 on the Official Singles Sales Chart and number 32 on the Official Singles Downloads Chart. On the Official Independent Singles Chart, it reached an impressive number 2 position. Internationally, ‘Move’ secured the top spot in Belgium, Bulgaria, Portugal, and Switzerland and reached the top 10 in Austria, Germany, and the Netherlands, underscoring the track’s widespread appeal and significant impact on the global music scene in 2024.
HUGEL X TOPIC X ARASH FEAT. DAECOLM – ‘I ADORE YOU’
Another Afro House hit and chart-topping success, this time from one of the key instigators of the genre’s commercial success. ‘I Adore You’ is an infectious, feel-good track that combines house and deep house elements with a catchy, melodic hook. Originally a collaboration between HUGEL, German DJ Topic, and Iranian-Swedish singer Arash, the track reached new heights when Latin superstar J Balvin joined in, propelling it to #1 on the Dance Radio chart and securing high positions across global dance music charts. With the #1 spot in over 9 countries and #15 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, ‘I Adore You’ became a go-to anthem at clubs, festivals, and house parties throughout the year.
CHASE & STATUS & STORMZY – ‘BACKBONE’
Chase & Status are in a league of their own, occupying a pedestal that no one in drum & bass can even come close to at the moment. In 2023, seven drum & bass or drum & bass-influenced tracks appeared in the UK Top 40, with five of them coming from this powerhouse duo. Their influence on bass music is undeniable. While ‘Baddadan’ opened the floodgates, it was their colossal collaboration with grime legend Stormzy that made ‘Backbone’ the track that pushed drum & bass into territories the genre never imagined reaching. Moreover, it wasn’t just drum & bass that grew—this anthem also brought hip-hop closer to the fold, resonating with audiences worldwide and securing top spots on international charts.
JOY ORBISON – ‘FLIGHT FM’
Despite the deep, dark, and underground aesthetics of ‘Flight FM,’ the track serves as a testament to Joy Orbison’s unique ability to transform it into one of the year’s most impactful dance anthems. Its pulsating energy and atmospheric depth quickly captured the attention of listeners, proving that underground sounds could have mainstream appeal. The track’s undeniable draw was so powerful that it prompted hip-hop giants like Lil Yachty, Future, and Playboi Carti to join forces for an alternate version of the single. This collaboration marked a groundbreaking crossover between hip-hop and bass-driven, leftfield dance music—an unexpected fusion that resonated with audiences across both genres.
As we approach 2025, it’s clear that dance music has been evolving in leaps and bounds for nearly two decades. With the progress we’ve seen in 2024, it’s evident that the genre is set to continue its upward trajectory, only getting bigger in the year ahead.
